Install using AWS CloudFormation

Your 30-day free trial has been confirmed! This page will walk you through installing C2 Discover into your AWS environment.

Before installing C2 Discover..

Please do the following:

  • Log in to your AWS account with IAM privileges to provision AWS resources and IAM roles, you can find an IAM policy JSON document with all of the permissions needed to deploy C2 Discover here. For instructions on how to upload an IAM policy in JSON format, see the AWS documentation here.
  • Confirm if you are in one of our supported regions*.
  • Click here to open the EC2 console and create an EC2 KeyPair by selecting Create key pair.
  • Click here to open the IAM console and create a service-linked role for AWS OpenSearch by clicking next, clicking next again, and then selecting Create Role. Skip this step if AWSServiceRoleForAmazonOpenSearchService is already listed in your AWS IAM Roles.
  • Click here to open the IAM console and create a service-linked role for AWS License Manager by clicking next, clicking next again, and then selecting Create Role. Skip this step if AWSServiceRoleForAWSLicenseManagerRole is already listed in your AWS IAM Roles.

* C2 Discover is currently supported in the following regions: us-east-1, us-east-2, us-west-2, ca-central-1, eu-central-1, eu-west-1, eu-west-2, ap-southeast-1, ap-southeast-2, ap-south-1, ap-northeast-1, ap-northeast-2

Installation Instructions

To install the C2 Discover free trial, you’ll need to deploy two separate CloudFormation stacks – one stack for the C2 Discover secure VPC and another stack for C2 Discover. These instructions will walk you through deploying both of them.

STACK 1: Deploy the C2 secure vpc

1. Log in to your AWS account and navigate to the CloudFormation console, then select Stacks in the left navigation pane.

2. In the CloudFormation console, select Create Stack > With new resources.

3. Ensure that the Template is ready option is selected, and then paste the following S3 URL into the Amazon S3 URL field to deploy the C2 Discover secure VPC stack, then select Next.

4. On the Specify Stack Details page, provide a name for the stack ( such as “C2Network” ). In the IncomingCidr parameter, enter the value 0.0.0.0/0. Select Next.

5. On the Configure Stack Options page, select Next. ( OPTIONAL: If you have a separate IAM Role with the permissions needed to provision the AWS resources and roles in the CloudFormation template, select the role in the drop-down box in the Permissions panel before selecting Next. )

6. Review the stack summary and select Submit to begin creating the stack. Before deploying Stack 2, please wait for Stack 1 to reach the CREATE_COMPLETE status.

STACK 2: Deploying C2 Discover

1. Navigate back to the CloudFormation console, select Stacks in the navigation pane, and create another stack by selecting Create Stack > With new resources.

2. Ensure that the Template is ready option is selected, and then paste the following S3 URL into the Amazon S3 URL field to deploy the C2 Discover stack. Select Next.

3. On the Specify Stack Details page, provide a name for the stack ( such as “C2DiscoverStack” ) and fill in the fields:

C2 Private Subnet fieldSearch for “C2PrivateSubnet” for the private subnet field.
C2 Public SubnetSearch for “C2PublicSubnet” for the public subnet field.
C2 Security GroupSearch for “DiscoveryVPCSecurityGroup” for the security group field.
  • In the AdminEmail field, provide the email address for whichever user will be the administrator on the installation.
  • In the C2VpcPrivateSubnet field, search for “C2PrivateSubnet” and select the subnet labeled with “C2PrivateSubnet”.
  • In the C2VpcPublicSubnet field, search for “C2PublicSubnet” and select the subnet labeled with “C2PublicSubnet”.
  • In the DiscoverySecurityGroup field, search for “DiscoveryVPCSecurityGroup” and select the security group tagged with “DiscoveryVPCSecurityGroup”.
  • For InstanceType, leave t3.small selected.
  • For KeyName select the EC2 Pair you created in the Before installing section.
  • In the Vpc field search for “C2DiscoverVPC” and select the VPC named “C2DiscoverVPC”.
  • Select Next.

4. On the Configure Stack Options page, select Next. ( OPTIONAL: If you have a separate IAM Role with the permissions needed to provision the AWS resources and roles in the CloudFormation template, select the role in the drop-down box in the Permissions panel before selecting Next. )

5. Review the stack summary and select Submit to begin installing the C2 Discover stack. Before the stack creation is complete, the user specified in the AdminEmail field will receive an email with a link to the user interface and a temporary password to log in. After the CloudFormation stack reaches the CREATE_COMPLETE status, you may visit the user interface by visting the link in the email. However this link will only work once the CloudFormation stack reaches the CREATE_COMPLETE status and this process can take up to 1 hour.
